Elevator Test Tower and Innovation & Qualification Center

thyssenkrupp North America

Location: Marietta, Georgia

Date Completed: Construction starts mid-2019

Architect: Gensler

General Contractor: Brasfield & Gorrie

thyssenkrupp Elevator chose Atlanta as the location to consolidate its U.S. operations, research, training, and corporate headquarters facilities at the Battery in Marietta, Georgia. The Innovation and Qualification Center (IQC) includes a 420’ tall elevator test tower with three observation and conference levels at the top. In addition to engineering, testing, and training activities, the tower will serve as a showcase for thyssenkrupp’s innovative technologies. thyssenkrupp’s corporate headquarters will occupy 150,000 sq. ft. in an attached office building that is being constructed by the Braves Development Group. Both projects are aggressively pursuing LEED Gold designation and are indicative of thyssenkrupp’s commitment to sustainable design, healthy work environments, and safety culture.

“We initially chose Collins Project Management after a competitive vetting process and soon discovered their experience, dedication and focus on process make them the best choice. Most project management companies promote their ‘world-class’ process but don’t follow it. Joe Collins was always several steps ahead and even volunteered to help before we made a final decision. My job now is to find a way to clone Joe and his team, so they can handle all our projects!”
John Anderson, Head of Real Estate, thyssenkrupp North America, Inc.
“I am working with Collins Project Management on the most high-profile construction project for our global company. It’s the thyssenkrupp Elevator Test Tower and Innovation and Qualification Center at The Battery, home of the Atlanta Braves. We are a German-based company with demanding expectations. Collins Project Management has extensive experience with complex hospital construction and renovation projects. Their attention to detail and rigorous validation have helped me tremendously. Many of the best practices Joe Collins introduced to us—from managing change requests to establishing a job-specific safety program—have been well received throughout our company. Joe sees the best in everyone he works with and is a great partner.”
