New Building Addition

Oak Grove United Methodist Church

Location: Decatur, Georgia

Date Completed: 2016

Project Cost: $7.5 million

Construction Cost: $6 million

Architect: Perkins + Will

General Contractor: Gay Construction Company

Consistent with the church’s original 1968 master plan, this new three-story addition completes the symmetrical complex fulfilling the envisioned campus facilities. An existing one-story building was demolished to provide better traffic flow and parking for access to their Young Children’s Center (YCS) and to a new main entrance for the complex.

The new building attaches to an existing corridor connecting the Fellowship Hall to the main Sanctuary building and houses space for church offices, a new Grand Hall function space, a new library, classrooms, and restrooms. It also houses the relocated teen program including a small kitchen, music and program venue, game room, much needed storage, and classrooms.

Under the new parking area, the project includes water retention tanks to better control run off from the entire campus. All of the existing terra cotta sewer lines, water service backflow preventers, and an outdated electrical service panel were replaced for long term maintenance and code compliance.

All existing programs and services continued during all phases of construction.
