Orthopedic Surgery Center

Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital

Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Date Completed: 2016

Project Cost: $15.1 million

Construction Cost: $10.8 million

Architect: HKS, Inc.

General Contractor: Brasfield & Gorrie

Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital developed an Orthopedic and Spine Pavilion to handle increasing orthopedic surgical volumes and improve patient outcomes. The project included six oversized operating rooms with equipment and anesthesia booms and all accompanying services to support the specialty of orthopedics.

Five different departments had to be relocated in phases to make room for the new center including Patient Access, Pre-Admit Testing, and Health Information Management. The project was competitively bid to multiple general contractors with the lowest qualified bid coming in at approximately 3% below the construction budget.

During our 25-year relationship with Saint Joseph’s we have added 70 inpatient beds, renovated existing patient floors and rooms, added an ICU, constructed a freestanding Cancer Center and Outpatient Center, added multiple cath labs, operating rooms, and imaging technologies, and renovated the majority of the hospital.

“When I work with Collins Project Management, they never act like a contractor; they act like a member of our organization. It’s the only time I’ve felt a true partnership. We were in the middle of a $15 million renovation project when Joe stepped in to fill the role of our facilities management director. He did a phenomenal job, making sure everything got done right. Because of his values and integrity, I always trust him to negotiate on our behalf. Joe makes my life easier.”
Heather Dexter, CEO
“Collins Project Management provided the support and structure our team sought after, allowing us to complete our most recent project on time and on budget. The master project was a complex set of enabling and parallel projects, comprised of at least 29 components. We added 104 beds, five operating rooms, eight new pre-op bays and a cath lab, all while maintaining full operations in the spaces immediately around the work. Because of Joe Collins’ seniority, knowledge and presence, he quickly earned the trust and respect of all parties involved. Joe facilitated the entire process, including the selection of general contractors, subcontractors and the architect, the bid process, and equipment procurement. We would not have been able to complete this project within the timeframe or budget without their support. I hope to have the opportunity to engage them again.”
