SUMTER REGIONAL HOSPITAL

Interim Facility
Americus, Georgia

In March 2007, a tornado killed two and damaged 200 homes and dozens of businesses in Americus on its 37-mile long path of destruction. It destroyed Sumter Regional Medical, and all 70 patients were evacuated from the 265,000 sf, 143-bed complex.

Collins Project Management assisted with disaster recovery. We managed construction of a new temporary hospital and planned for the new replacement facility. We assisted with damage assessments for insurance claims including coordination with FEMA.

The temporary facility included an Emergency Department with 8 treatment and 2 trauma rooms, a Surgical Suite with 3 ORs, 8 ICU rooms, 9 Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms, 46 patient beds plus 10 observation beds, Clinical and Anatomic Pathology, Imaging, and other Clinical Services.
